High power density and bias-free reverse electrowetting energy harvesting using surface area enhanced porous electrodes

چکیده
Reverse electrowetting-on-dielectric (REWOD) is a novel energy harvesting technology with significant advantage over other technologies due to its effective performance at low-frequency range and not requiring resonance frequency of solid structures. However, REWOD based on planar electrodes has limited surface area therefore lower power output. In this work, we present approach for enhancing output from harvester by significantly increasing the total available using perforated silicon wafer electrodes. Without applying any external bias voltage, maximum current voltage densities per unit were measured be 3.77 ?A/cm2 1.05 V/cm2, respectively, 38 ?m pore-size electrode 5 Hz modulation frequency. RMS density was 4.8 ?W/cm2, which ?23 times higher than that our prior work showing significance porous in harvesting. A simple capacitive theoretical model validating experimental results developed justified. The novelty lies combination bias-free coupled enhancement increase density.

Bubbler: A Novel Ultra-High Power Density Energy Harvesting Method Based on Reverse Electrowetting
We have proposed and successfully demonstrated a novel approach to direct conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy using microfluidics. The method combines previously demonstrated reverse electrowetting on dielectric (REWOD) phenomenon with the fast self-oscillating process of bubble growth and collapse. Fast bubble dynamics, used in conjunction with REWOD, provides a possibility ...
متن کاملReverse electrowetting as a new approach to high-power energy harvesting
Over the last decade electrical batteries have emerged as a critical bottleneck for portable electronics development. High-power mechanical energy harvesting can potentially provide a valuable alternative to the use of batteries, but, until now, a suitable mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion technology did not exist. Here we describe a novel mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion met...

A high-yield solution-processed ultrathin (<10 nm) trigonal tellurium (t-Te) nanowire (NW) is introduced as a new class of piezoelectric nanomaterial with a six-fold higher piezoelectric constant compared to conventional ZnO NWs for a high-volume power-density nanogenerator (NG). While determining the energy-harvesting principle in a NG consisting of t-Te NW, it is theoretically and experimenta...
متن کاملRemote area wind energy harvesting for low-power autonomous sensors
A growing demand for deployment of autonomous sensors and sensor networks is leading to a subsequent increase in the demand for localized, independent energy harvesting capabilities for each node. In this paper, a method of remote area wind energy harvesting is presented, with a focus on an anemometer-based solution. By utilizing the motion of the anemometer shaft to turn a compact alternator, ...
